Roselise Gentile

We welcome Roselise Gentile to Mirabilé and know that the quality of our sound and perfomances can only improve under her directorship.

Roselise Gentile carried out her Piano studies at the Conservatorio “A. Boito” in Parma, Italy. After her Piano diploma, she completed Harmony and Counterpoint studies.

She has studied choir conducting with Giovanni Acciai and Roberto Gabbiani, following the three-year Advanced Course in Choral Practice and Choir Conducting “R. Goitre”.
From 1992 to 1996 she followed the International Courses in Gregorian chant held by Luigi Agustoni, Fulvio Rampi, Alberto Turco, Réginald Grégoire and Johannes Berchmans Göschl for the International Association for Gragoriand Chant Studies in Cremona, Italy.

In 1991 Roselise Gentile founded the “Ensemble Vocale Alia Musica”, 8 to 16 mixed voices chamber vocal group. For copyright reasons in 2002 the group name changed to “Incantica”. Under her direction the Ensemble carried out an intense and increasingly prestigious performing activity in Italy, with a repertoire ranging from gregorian chant to ’900 music. All the of the concerts’ music is memorised for a better communication with the audience during the performance.
The Ensemble took part in:
- International Competition “Seghizzi” in Gorizia, in “Gregorian Chant” and “Chamber Ensemble” categories,
- most important International Festivals in Italy, such as
“Incontro con la Polifonia” in Giarre, 1997
“Incontro internazionale Polifonico Città di Fano” in Fano, 1998
38th International Festival of Musical Chapels in Loreto, 1998
for the latter performance the Ensemble, chosen between more than 100 groups from 26 countries, received an enthusiastic note from the International Artistic Board: “Excellente tenue de ce choeur (sans doute le meilleur). Ce choeur possède une bonne technique vocale et l’interprétation des motets est très soignée. La direction du chef est efficace. Quel plaisir d’écouter cet ensemble vocal de grande qualité”.
As conductor of Alia Musica Ensemble, Roselise Gentile carried out different peculiar projects, among which the performance of unpublished Psalms by Tomas Luis de Victoria, result of a recent musicological discovery, and the recording of a monographic CD with sacred and secular works by Spanish composer Juan De Anchieta (1462-1523)

In 1995 Roselise Gentile started to devote herself also to Orchestra Conducting, following for two years the international course held by Julius Kalmar for the “Hans Swarowsky” Association, and, in 1997 she followed the international course in Orchestra Conducting “Franco Ferrara”, held by Luis Salomon at the “Teatro Sociale” in Como, Italy. She then studied Romolo Gessi and Donato Renzetti following the Master Classes and the three years Course at the European Academy in Vicenza.

Since 1996 together with choir conducting Roselise Gentile has started an increasingly intense concert activity as an orchestra conductor.

She has worked with different instrumental ensembles, among which the Regional Choir and Orchestra of Umbria, the Chamber Orchestra “Cappella Musicale di Minerbio” composed by leading members of the Orchestra of Teatro Comunale in Bologna and the “Solisti della Scala”, working with important soloists and singers such as Anna Caterina Antonacci during a “Gala Concert” in Bologna in memory of Mariele Ventre.

As assistant of M° George Pehlivanian she took part in some projects with Slovenian Philarmonic Orchestra, in Slovenia and France.

She has worked as coach at the “Festival dei Due Mondi” in Spoleto (June 2008 , June 2009), at the 52th International Festival of Contemporary Music for La Biennale in Venice (October 2008), and in the production of the Lombardia’s circuit (November/December 2008).

Since 2009 she collaborates with Choir “Claudio Merulo” of Reggio Emilia, whose partner/singers constitutes the bulk of the choirs of Teatro Regio and Festival Verdi (both in Parma).

She regularly conducts Chamber Orchestra “Farnesiana” with a vast repertoire ranging from baroque to XXth century music.

She is currently dividing her time between England, where she lives and works as a freelance conductor, and as Musical Director for Mirabilé,  and Italy and Switzerland, where, together with Ensemble Vocale “Incantica”, she is carrying on a project dedicated to the recently deceased Swiss composer Carlo Florindo Semini.
